Emergency Dental Care at North Mankato

Urgent Dental Care for a Healthier, Stronger Smile

Prompt Care for Urgent Dental Needs

At Southern Minnesota Sedation Dentistry, your dental health is our top priority. Our North Mankato office serves patients from across Southern Minnesota, offering a warm and caring environment to address urgent dental concerns.

We provide a full range of emergency dental treatments to quickly relieve pain and protect your oral health. Dental emergencies can be both frightening and painful, and prompt care is often necessary to ensure the best outcome.

Teeth may become fractured from trauma, grinding, or biting on hard objects, while fillings, crowns, or other restorations can become damaged or dislodged. Severe pain should never be ignored—contact our office immediately. Left untreated, dental emergencies often worsen and can pose serious risks to your overall health.

Types of Dental Emergency

Avulsed Tooth (Knocked Out)

If a tooth is knocked out, see a dentist immediately—ideally within an hour for the best chance of saving it. Handle the tooth by the crown only, rinse gently with warm water, and place it back in its socket or in the cheek pouch. If that’s not possible, store it in milk, saliva, or water to keep it moist. Get to our office quickly for treatment, which may include reinsertion or root canal therapy if needed.

Lost Filling or Crown

If a crown or filling comes loose, the tooth may be sensitive to temperature and pressure. Make an appointment promptly and keep the crown safe for possible reinsertion. In the meantime, apply clove oil for pain and use dental cement from a pharmacy to temporarily secure the crown or cover the tooth. Do not use glue. If decay is present, we’ll treat it before fitting a new crown.

Cracked or Broken Teeth

Cracks and breaks can be painless or very painful depending on the severity. Call us right away. At home, rinse the area, control bleeding with gauze, and apply a cold compress for swelling. Over-the-counter dental cement can protect the tooth until your visit. Treatment may involve bonding the fragment, filling the tooth, or root canal therapy if the damage reaches the root.

Dislodged or Loose Teeth

If a tooth is loosened or partially dislodged, immediate care increases the chance of saving it. Use a cold compress and over-the-counter pain relief until you arrive. We may be able to reposition and stabilize the tooth with splints. If healing is unsuccessful, root canal therapy may be necessary.
